This summer we took a cruise on a new Cunard ship, Queen Anne. We embarked from Southampton, England, traversed the North Sea, made a loop around the Baltic Sea, and returned to Southampton.
It was a wonderful trip but there were not as many opportunities to take photographs as I would have liked. We stopped at 8 different ports but only for day excursions. Initially we were on large group tours with limited photo opportunities but switched to small private tours or went touring on our own, which worked much better. A couple of rainy days, including heavy rains in Copenhagen, further complicated matters. Oftentimes, we were limited to “we were here” photos.
While the Old Towns were rich in history and culture, my favorite places were the Minatur Wunderland Museum and the town of Skagen. The Minatur Wunderland Museum in Hamburg boasts the world’s largest model railway but it is much more than that. It includes cities and countries from around the world, a fun fair, airport, soccer stadium and many other displays. Located at the top of Denmark, Skagen began as an artist colony and bloomed into a unique destination with fabulous yellow houses, art museum/galleries, and gourmet restaurants.
For this trip, I used the Leica Q2 for its combination of compact size and high quality images.
